CONNECTING TO THE COMMUNITY & Beyond

The Everence Sharing Fund provided $450 in matching funds to support special needs in our church in 2017.  John Clem serves as the Everence advocate for our congregation.  Please contact John for more information.

Families with children: This Wednesday is the first day of Lent and the beginning of “Between Me & You,” a free, downloadable guide for family worship from February 14 through April 1, Easter Sunday. Pick and choose the activities that work best for your family. Find it at www.anabaptistfaithformation.org

Women of Central Plains: You are invited to "Sister Care: Equipping Women for Healing Ministries" at the Leadership Center in Aurora, Nebraska, on March 3-4, 2018. Sister Care seminars provide women with tools for ongoing personal healing, for recognizing and celebrating God's grace in their lives, and for responding more confidently to the needs of others.  Sister Care is a ministry of Mennonite Women USA and will be led by Rhoda Keener, former director of Mennonite Women USA, and Carolyn Heggen, psychotherapist. For more information or to register online, visit: www.FMCLincoln.org/WomensRetreatSisterCare or contact First Mennonite Lincoln Church member Carol Knieriem at carolknieriem@hotmail.com or 402-366-6598.

SCHMECKFEST:

· Cottage cheese pocket making days: Feb. 20 & Feb 27 starting at 9 a.m., in the Pioneer Hall basement.  Everyone is welcome to help - men and women. You don't have to know how to make them, we will teach you. If you have any questions, contact June Pullman or Boni Hofer.

· Noodle making (for the Country Kitchen & meals): Tuesday, February 13, in the Pioneer Hall dining room starting at 9 a.m.  In the event a “snow date” is needed, noodles also will be made on Saturday, February 17. Cancellations will be announced on the Courier and Freeman Academy websites. Volunteers to help with the noodle making project will be appreciated.  Bring a friend and enjoy the fellowship!

· Volunteers are needed for making 1400 kuchen that will be used at the meal (600) and sold in the Country Kitchen (800). We will be baking all kuchen at the Tyndall Bakery on three separate days: February 22, March 3 and March 10 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. each day.  The filling needs to be made in the Pioneer Hall kitchen prior to each baking day.  February 21, March 2 and March 9 will need workers from 1:00-7:00 p.m. each day.  Helpers are welcome for all or part of a shift.  Donations of peaches, cherries, mulberries, rhubarb, raspberries, etc. would be appreciated. We need about 10 people for each baking day and 4-6 for making pudding.  Please contact Vernetta Waltner at 321-7351, 925-7620 or waltners@hotmail.com to volunteer your time in any of these ways.  Cash donations to defray the costs for kuchen can be given to Debra Schmeichel or any area Schmeckfest food committee member.
